THESIS OBJECTIVE

This years thesis project is set out to undertake a research-based design proposal to solve a conflict with-in a country and city along the silk road.


After researching the conflict of child labour and orphan’s in India, the initial idea has now been carried through the schematic design, design development, comprehensive design, technical resolution and documentation stages.


Aspects of the local culture and traditions, economic state, social issues, site analysis, climate, vernacular building methods and materials and sustainability have been compiled to aid with an architectural solution to the increasing child labour and orphan issues Kanpur, India.

CHILDREN'S LEARNING FARM

CHILDREN'S LEARNING FARM - MANIFESTO

Proposed will be a children’s rehabilitation farm, school and residence. The buildings program will focusing on long-term care and rehabilitation for children caught in various types of unfortunate situations.

 

Working together with other child protection organizations, the Farms mission will be to reach out to a variety of age groups ranging from toddlers to adolescence.  Kanpur being an industrial city has many factories that currently use children for cheap labour.

 

The city of Kanpur is currently undergoing inspections of these facilities and taking children from the factories. With out a proper rehabilitation facility in place, children will most likely find themselves back in the same poor working condition they were rescued from.

The camp’s goals will be to give children suffering from social and physical oppression a hope for the future.  This will be achieved by providing nutritious food and shelter, education and rehabilitation, minor health care and basic life-skills in a healthy and fun learning environment to enable their re-integration into society.


By living on the farm the children will gain a solid background of self-sustainability, living off the land, agriculture and food supply issues. Children will have the opportunity to participate in each years harvest and selling produces in the near by markets.
